On Saturday July 27th at 6pm, the Tilghman United Methodist Church is hosting a free concert. featuring Country, Gospel and Bluegrass Music. Headlining the concert is singer Lawrence Tyler of Tilghman. A talented vocalist, Lawrence will be performing old time gospel songs as well as songs from his latest CD “Singin’ With the Saints.” A native Tilghman Islander, Captain Lawrence Tyler is a waterman, and owner of Diving Ducks Outfitters. During the week he can be seen in his boat “North Star” out on the bay, but on Sunday mornings he sings at Harmony United Methodist Church in Harmony Md. This is a rare chance to hear him singing live.
Opening the show is the Country Bluegrass group Flatland Drive. The group came together on April Fool’s Day in 2009 but not as a joke, rather as a serious effort to blend traditional bluegrass with modern stylings. The members of the band hail from either Caroline County, Maryland or Kent County, Delaware. In their relatively short time together, the band has shared the stage with the likes of bluegrass giants such as The Seldom Scene, The Lonesome River Band, Dailey and Vincent, The Boxcars, and many other stellar bands in the world of bluegrass.
This free concerts starts at 6pm, on Saturday July 27th at the Tilghman United Methodist Church. Organized to promote community and local artists, the “Music of Tilghman” concerts are sponsored by the Tilghman United Methodist Church and by the Talbot County Arts Council with funds provided by the Talbot County Council and the Towns of Easton, Oxford, and St. Michael.
