Architectural as well as structural and civil engineering issues have been fully considered in Hager’s plans. SVN’s marketing efforts will confirm demand for the units and generate a reservation list of prospective buyers and tenants. Nearly turn-key, this project is ready for delivery to a developer/builder to take it to the next level.
As reimagined, these silo houses will blend urban luxury with a familiar rural setting. The industrial building materials and existing structures will lead to surprising affordability, and should be attractive to residents from many age groups, including millennials, empty-nesters and active seniors. The expanding Rails-to-Trails system adjacent to the property will connect the property to the rest of the popular East End neighborhood and the bustling Easton downtown.
“Architecturally, the concept utilizes the shell of the silos, and assembles prefabricated structurally self-supporting interior modules that drop into the existing body,” architect Mitch Hager said. “The rounded areas of the silos become outdoor terraces and porches for residents, while the top of the silos become private penthouses and public greenspaces.”
