Talbot Young Professionals Kick Off Their 20th Annual Toys for Tots Campaign

November marked the official start of the Talbot Young Professionals’ annual Toys for Tots toy drive initiative and Amy Kreiner, President and CEO of the Talbot County Chamber of Commerce has big hopes for the program again this year.
“The YPs were faced with new challenges to the program last year, with COVID restrictions eliminating our traditional toy collection events. Plus, many of the lobbies of our community partners with toy collection boxes weren’t open to the public, so we really had to find other ways to ensure we could still provide a happy holiday season to local children in need,” said Kreiner.
“We added campaign-sized yard signs outside drop box locations and held several drive-through toy drop-off events which were promoted on social media.” The strategies proved successful, as more than 3,400 toys were collected last year.
Frank Gunsallus IV, Chair of the Talbot Young Professionals, a committee of the Talbot County Chamber of Commerce, said they have even higher hopes for this year’s campaign. “There are 40 more boxes out in the community this year, almost 120 at this point and we’re still getting requests,” he said.
“We’ve scheduled drive-through toy collections with Koons Toyota of Easton on December 4th and Easton Utilities on December 11th and will be outside Target and PetSmart on December 12th. We’re also able to hold the annual luncheon at the Tidewater Inn, which is great because 2021 marks the 20th year the Talbot YPs have partnered with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve to hold the program locally, so this should be a really great year,” said Gunsallus.
“Children are our future,” said Kreiner, “and circumstances beyond their control shouldn’t prohibit them from experiencing the joy of opening presents on Christmas morning.”
Everyone is invited to attend the Annual Luncheon on December 15th from noon-1:30pm in the Crystal Room at the Tidewater Inn. Tickets are $35 plus the donation of a new, unwrapped toy or book and are available at talbotchamber.org/events.
Program sponsorships are still available, by contacting the Talbot County Chamber of Commerce at 410-822-4653 or emailing akreiner@talbotchamber.org. Monetary donations and a full list of drop box locations and community events can be found at talbotchamber.org.
